| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of John Francis "Jack" Leuck of Pekin, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on March 8, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck was born to John and Leona (Nilan) | ||||||
| 6 | Leuck in Harlan, Iowa on January 1939; he served as a military | ||||||
| 7 | police officer in the U.S. Army for two years; he received his | ||||||
| 8 | bachelor's degree in finance and marketing from Creighton | ||||||
| 9 | University in 1962; he married Joan Petersen on February 10, | ||||||
| 10 | 1962, and they were married for 58 years until she preceded him | ||||||
| 11 | in death on November 25, 2020; he earned his Juris Doctor from | ||||||
| 12 | Creighton University School of Law in 1966; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck served as an agent for the Federal | ||||||
| 14 | Bureau of Investigation (FBI); his work took him and his | ||||||
| 15 | family to Omaha, Nebraska, Houston, Texas, and Atlanta, | ||||||
| 16 | Georgia before they settled in Peoria, Illinois in 1972; he | ||||||
| 17 | was promoted to special agent in charge of the Peoria FBI | ||||||
| 18 | Office in 1987, a position he held until his retirement in | ||||||
| 19 | 1989; during his career, he was very active in the FBI, serving | ||||||
| 20 | as a legal instructor, teaching firearms classes for many | ||||||
| 21 | different law enforcement agencies, and serving as a SWAT | ||||||
| 22 | agent for 17 years, and his FBI and SWAT career led him to | ||||||
| 23 | investigate many high-profile cases throughout the United | ||||||

| 1 | States; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck, after retiring from a 23-year career | ||||||
| 3 | in the FBI, served as police chief of the Pekin Police | ||||||
| 4 | Department before practicing law; he began his law career in | ||||||
| 5 | Peoria and Tazewell County, serving the community as an | ||||||
| 6 | attorney and public defender for 27 years; he officially | ||||||
| 7 | retired in 2019, having protected and served his community for | ||||||
| 8 | 53 years in total; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck was an active member of the Knights of | ||||||
| 10 | Columbus and St. Joseph's Parish in Pekin, where he served as a | ||||||
| 11 | lector for many years; he also volunteered and supported many | ||||||
| 12 | charities; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck loved all sports, especially the | ||||||
| 14 | Creighton Blue Jays, the Iowa Hawkeyes, his grandchildren's | ||||||
| 15 | games, and about any other sport he could find on TV; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 17 | his brother, Charles Leuck; his sisters-in-law, Joyce Petersen | ||||||
| 18 | and Linda Berzina; and his brothers-in-law, Gerald Petersen | ||||||
| 19 | and Joseph Berzina; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Jack Leuck is survived by his children, Patrick | ||||||
| 21 | (Jonna) Leuck, Michelle (Christopher) Hutchinson, Kari (Mark) | ||||||

| 1 | Ballinger, and Jason (Molly) Leuck; nine grandchildren; many | ||||||
| 2 | great-grandchildren; his friends, and his trusty companion, | ||||||
| 3 | Angel; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 6 | John Francis "Jack" Leuck and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
| 7 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
| 8 | it further | ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the family of Jack Leuck as an expression of our | ||||||
| 11 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
