SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to recognize Head Coach Doug Bruno of the DePaul University women's basketball team, the Blue Demons, on his illustrious coaching career; and

WHEREAS, Coach Bruno, over the course of his 39-season career, has led the DePaul University women's basketball team towards achieving 786 wins, 19 conference championships, 25 NCAA Division I Tournament appearances, of which 18 were consecutive, and four NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances; he has also had the privilege of seeing 15 of his players drafted by the WNBA; and

WHEREAS, Coach Bruno has represented the United States on the global level, serving as assistant coach of the USA Basketball Women's Olympic Team as it won the gold medal at both the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and

WHEREAS, Coach Bruno has earned a number of accolades for his contributions to basketball, including being named Conference USA's Coach of the Decade in 2005, becoming the inaugural recipient of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Rich and Ron Herrin Award in 2018, and being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Head Coach Doug Bruno of the DePaul University women's basketball team, the Blue Demons, on his 39-season coaching career and his decades of effort, dedication, and hard work, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Bruno as an expression of our esteem and respect.
