| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Fay Michael "Mike" Sullivan of |
| 4 | | Mattoon, who passed away on April 17, 2025; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan was born to Charles F. and Mary C. |
| 6 | | (Holmes) Sullivan in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 15, 1947; he |
| 7 | | married Linda B. Sims in Mattoon on July 25, 1970; he served as |
| 8 | | a Navy Seabee in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era; he |
| 9 | | attended Lake Land College, where he served as president of |
| 10 | | the Student Government and started the annual Spring Carnival; |
| 11 | | he received his bachelor's degree in agricultural industries |
| 12 | | from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan worked at Consolidated |
| 14 | | Communications in Mattoon for a number of years; he later took |
| 15 | | a position as a district manager of direct business sales at |
| 16 | | Verizon Wireless in central Illinois; he retired as director |
| 17 | | of the Small Business Development Center at Illinois Eastern |
| 18 | | Community Colleges; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan held numerous memberships and |
| 20 | | affiliations, including serving on the Lake Land College Board |
| 21 | | of Trustees for 37 years, as a trustee of Illinois Community |
| 22 | | College, and as a member of the Lake Land College Alumni |

| 1 | | Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4325 and |
| 2 | | Honor Guard, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus |
| 3 | | for 54 years; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan had an unwavering commitment to his |
| 5 | | community, serving as a member of the Mattoon Area Pads |
| 6 | | Community Organization, the City of Mattoon Housing Committee, |
| 7 | | the City of Mattoon Planning & Zoning Committee, and the St. |
| 8 | | Mary's Catholic School Board; for many years, he also served |
| 9 | | as president of the Humboldt School PTA and as a volunteer |
| 10 | | firefighter for the Humboldt Township Fire Department; he was |
| 11 | | a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church |
| 12 | | in Mattoon, where he was an usher for many years; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan, fueled by his passion for |
| 14 | | veterans, animals, and his community, was instrumental in |
| 15 | | obtaining the Veterans Memorial at Lake Land College, the |
| 16 | | restoration of the U.S. Army tank at Peterson Park, and the |
| 17 | | establishment of the Mattoon Community Dog Park, all in |
| 18 | | Mattoon; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan found his greatest joy in the |
| 20 | | presence of his loved ones, cherishing both his immediate and |
| 21 | | extended family; he will be remembered as a pillar of his |
| 22 | | family and for his spirit of love, family, and community; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan was preceded in death by his |
| 2 | | parents; his brothers, Pat Sullivan, Frank Sullivan, and John |
| 3 | | Sullivan; his sister, Mary Alice Ames; and his |
| 4 | | brothers-in-law, Bob Sims, Eddie Sims, Ron Sims, Dick Sims, |
| 5 | | and Roger Ames; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Mike Sullivan is survived by his wife of 54 |
| 7 | | years, Linda; his children, Beth L. (Nathan) Weiss and Ben M. |
| 8 | | Sullivan; his brothers, Tim (Rebecca) Sullivan and Dan |
| 9 | | (Priscilla) Sullivan; his sisters, Jody (Don) Sniff and Anna |
| 10 | | (Gary) Cook; one grandchild and two step-grandchildren; his |
| 11 | | brothers-in-law, Roger (Sami) Sims, Ken (Janette) Sims, Joe |
| 12 | | Sims, and Bill Sims; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Sims and |
| 13 | | Johna Sims; therefore, be it |
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 16 | | Fay Michael "Mike" Sullivan and extend our sincere condolences |
| 17 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 18 | | it further |
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | presented to the family of Mike Sullivan as an expression of |
| 21 | | our deepest sympathy. |
