| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to |
| 3 | | congratulate the United States Navy on its 250th anniversary; |
| 4 | | and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy was founded on October 13, 1775 |
| 6 | | when the Continental Congress agreed to supply Gen. George |
| 7 | | Washington with an armed schooner and a sloop; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy has been used successfully in the |
| 9 | | American Revolution, World War I, World War II, the Korean |
| 10 | | War, the Vietnam War, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation |
| 11 | | Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy is comprised of men and women who |
| 13 | | are consummate professionals even while serving in some of the |
| 14 | | harshest environments and putting their lives at risk; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy embodies the values of honor, |
| 16 | | courage, and commitment, inspiring generations of American |
| 17 | | citizens to serve and defend their county; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy plays a critical role in the |
| 19 | | defense of the United States and in preserving the lives and |
| 20 | | liberties of its citizens; therefore, be it
