SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charles Edward "Chuck" Radel of
4Quincy, who passed away on October 19, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Chuck Radel, the son of Edward W. and Lilah Ruth
6(Carlisle) Radel, was born in Keokuk, Iowa on November 6,
71944; he was raised on a farm near Nauvoo, Illinois; he
8graduated from Nauvoo-Colusa High School; he received his
9bachelor's degree from Quincy University and his master's
10degree from Western Illinois University, and he also did
11graduate coursework in school administration from other
12schools over the years; he married Geraldine "Gerry"
13Fitzgerald on June 11, 1966; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Chuck Radel was a history teacher at Quincy
15Junior High School before becoming the director of
16transportation for the Quincy Public School District; he later
17became assistant principal of Quincy Junior High School; he
18served the Quincy Public School District for 33 years; during
19his career, he offered his students memorable educational
20experiences, including canoe trips to the Current River and
21the Washington, D.C. trips for eighth graders, and he led more
22than 30 student trips to the Quetico Provincial Park for
23camping and canoeing in Ontario, Canada; he also upheld

1management of the Radel family farms along with his sister,
2Pegi; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Chuck Radel was involved in his community,
4serving as a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and as a past
5president of the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams
6County, where he spearheaded the creation of the History
7Museum on the Square; he was also involved in the creation of
8the Lincoln Gallery, was instrumental in the creation of the
9Quincy portion of the Looking for Lincoln Waysides, and served
10as the local representative to the statewide Looking for
11Lincoln committee for many years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Chuck Radel enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts
13of America with his son and his grandson, Eddie; he also
14enjoyed conducting historical reading and research, following
15national and local news, canoeing, and camping; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Chuck Radel was preceded in death by his parents
17and his brother, David Radel; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Chuck Radel is survived by his wife of 59 years,
19Gerry; his children, Thomas "Ted" (Julie) Radel and Patricia
20"Tricia" Radel; his grandchildren, Joseph Radel and Edward J.
21"Eddie" (Toni) Radel; one expected great-grandchild; his
22siblings, Mary Margaret "Pegi" (Bill) Langan and Patricia

1"Pat" (Rev. Charles) Bradbury; his siblings-in-law, Lenore
2Radel, Dr. Victoria Fitzgerald, and Thomas "Tom" (Rosemary)
3Fitzgerald; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and other
4relatives; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Charles Edward "Chuck" Radel and extend our sincere
8condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
9him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Chuck Radel as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
