SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dan Jeffrey Ryan of Carlinville, who passed away on October 9, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan was born to John "J.B." Ryan and Betty (Nester) Ryan in Carlinville on April 1, 1955; he graduated from Carlinville High School in 1973; he attended Lakeland Junior College and then Eastern Illinois University, where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity; during college, he worked as a page at the Illinois State Capitol Building in Springfield and made many lifetime friends; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan moved to Chicago and held various positions in the City of Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation; while in Chicago, he fell in love with the city, the food, the sports, and the nightlife; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan acquired Ryan's Pub, a successful bar and restaurant in Carlinville, in 1987; during his tenure, he became involved in the community; he was a parishioner of Ss. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Elks Lodge #1412 and the Carlinville Country Club, and he also took pride in supporting local schools, athletes, and clubs; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan moved to Springfield after closing Ryan's Pub, working for the Secretary of State until he fell ill in 2019; he was a resident at Lakeside Health & Rehab Center in Carlinville until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan loved traveling and golfing; he also loved trivia, movies, and music; he was a huge sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan, affectionately known as "Tomato", knew everyone, told the funniest stories, celebrated being Irish every day, possessed the softest heart, and dearly loved his boys and family; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Timothy Ryan; and his nephew, Matthew Ryan; and

WHEREAS, Dan Ryan is survived by his sons, Jordan (Nicole) Ryan and Joshua (Kara) Ryan; his granddaughter, Brenna Ryan; his brothers, Patrick Ryan and Michael (Beth) Ryan; his sister, Peggy (Todd) Egizii; one aunt and one uncle; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dan Jeffrey Ryan and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dan Ryan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
