SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Wenonah M. Bish of Sherman, who passed
4away on November 1, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish was born to Louis B. and Elizabeth
6R. Kelly Taborn in Springfield on October 2, 1912; she was
7educated in the Springfield Public Schools District; she
8married Edgar A. Bish in 1943, and he preceded her in death on
9March 26, 2001; she was a resident of Springfield for the
10majority of her life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish worked as an assembly line worker
12for the Sangamo Electric Company, retiring after many years of
13service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish was a woman of strong faith and a
15longtime member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church; she was also known
16as a fashionista who never left her home without her hair
17perfectly coiffed, her makeup applied, and her earrings and
18pearls in place; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish enjoyed receiving daily phone calls
20from her daughter, frequent visits from her family and
21friends, and mail and packages from people around the country

1and the world; she loved celebrating her birthdays with a meal
2of barbecue ribs from Smokey Bones and original recipe fried
3chicken from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC); and
 
4    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish always looked forward to the joys of
5tomorrow; at the time of her passing, she was the oldest
6resident in the State of Illinois at the age of 113; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish was preceded in death by her
8parents; her sisters, Thelma Evans, Anne Cabelle, and
9Marguerite (James) Burton; her brother, Louis B. Taborn Jr.;
10and her son, Donald E. Wright; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Wenonah Bish is survived by her daughter, Delores
12Ann (the late Joseph) Hughes; her grandchildren, Pamela (Eric)
13Miller, Joseph H. (Elaine) Hughes, Edgar B. (Regina) Hughes,
14Donald E. (Marybeth) Wright Jr., Douglas Wright, Dirk Wright,
15and Derrick Wright; five great-grandchildren; three
16great-great-grandchildren; her special cousin, Pam Jones King;
17her special friends, Georgetta Slaughter and James Slaughter;
18and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Wenonah M. Bish and extend our sincere condolences to her

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Wenonah Bish as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
