SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Matthew Lynn "Matt" Lakin of Bluffs,
4who passed away on December 25, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin, the son of Eric and Chris Lakin, was
6born on June 13, 1975; he was raised on his family's farm in
7Murrayville; he attended Lincoln Elementary School and
8Jonathan Turner Junior High School, and he graduated from
9Jacksonville High School in 1993; he received a bachelor's
10degree in communications from the University of Illinois in
111998; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin had a long and successful career in
13radio, including being a part of The Redneck Breakfast Club on
14WJVO, and he was dedicated to and beloved by his listeners; due
15to his love of music, he established a D.J. service,
16contributing to people's special moments; he also continued to
17play an integral role in supporting his family's farm; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin enjoyed roller hockey, which he played
19at the University of Illinois, and his involvement in college
20set the stage for what would later become the Jacksonville
21Roller Hockey League; and

1    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin was an avid fan of Star War and all
2sports, especially the Fighting Illini, the Chicago Cubs, the
3Chicago Bulls, the St. Louis Blues, the Dallas Cowboys, and
4NASCAR, and he always looked forward to watching March Madness
5and the Olympics with his friends; he also enjoyed running 5k
6races with his wife, driving, building Legos, playing video
7games, attending parties, and fishing; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin was an adored husband, son, brother,
9uncle, and friend; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin was preceded in death by his
11grandparents, Fritz Stegmann, Audrey Stegmann, Don Lakin, and
12Betty Lakin, and his father-in-law, Jerry Gross; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Matt Lakin is survived by his wife of 20 years,
14Judy; his parents; his sister, Shelley (Terry) Whewell; two
15nephews; one great-nephew; his mother-in-law, Lynda Gross; and
16his siblings-in-law, David Gross and Mary Gross; therefore, be
17it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Matthew Lynn "Matt" Lakin and extend our sincere condolences
21to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
22it further
