SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John William Coultas of Peoria, who
4passed away on December 28, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Coultas, the son of Bill and Jane Coultas,
6was born on August 24, 1971; and
 
7    WHEREAS, As a child, John Coultas loved exploring in
8nature, looking for eagle nests, playing soccer,
9skateboarding, playing hacky sack, riding in the back of his
10grandfather's red pickup truck, and playing Little League; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In his teenage years, mischievous and undeniably
12charismatic, John Coultas filled his days with music,
13laughter, friends, and ripping donuts in the snow with his
14little sisters in the red pickup truck that had become his
15prized possession; and
 
16    WHEREAS, After high school, John Coultas attended Parkland
17College before transferring to and graduating from the
18University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was named a Gaylord
19Nelson Scholar; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Coultas especially enjoyed listening to the

1music of the Grateful Dead, spending countless hours following
2the band's tours across the country; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Coultas loved few things more than his
4annual trip to Florida with his father, traipsing about the
5entire state to visit family and friends and always spending
6at least three days at his favorite place in the world, Miami
7Beach; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Coultas never met a Monical's Pizza,
9Starbucks coffee drink, or sweet treat that he did not like,
10and he was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay
11Packers; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Despite suffering a life-altering traumatic brain
13injury early in his adult life, John Coultas never lost his joy
14and tenacity for life, and he never stopped laughing and
15treating everyone he met with kindness and love; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Coultas loved his family fiercely and
17unconditionally, which was matched by their love for him and
18shown through their steadfast dedication and heartfelt care;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Coultas was an old soul, with a genuine
21smile and a hearty laugh, who made friends with everyone he

1encountered, and he will be remembered for the joy, courage,
2love, and kindness that he exuded into the world; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Coultas is survived by his parents; his
4sisters, Martha Coultas and Emily (Caleb) Miller; his nephew
5and nieces, Charlie, Etta, and Poppy Miller; and countless
6family and friends; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9John William Coultas and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of John Coultas as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
