SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Janell Farmer of Quincy, who passed
4away on January 15, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer, the daughter of William and
6Marilyn Hilton, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October
727, 1956; she graduated from Morristown High School in 1974;
8she received her degree from Purdue University in 1978, where
9she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and was crowned Indiana
10Pork Queen; she married Jim Farmer in New Palestine, Indiana
11on December 18, 1982; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer worked as a pharmaceutical sales
13representative for Elanco in Quincy from 1978 until 1986; she
14then served as an insurance agent with MassMutual until 2005;
15she later taught sales courses at John Wood Community College;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer served on the John Wood Community
18College Board of Trustees for one term; she was also a
19longtime, active member of the John Wood Community College
20Foundation Board, and she started a family scholarship for
21John Wood Community College students; she served as a board
22member and volunteer of the Quincy Community Theatre, and she

1also volunteered at St. James Lutheran School and Unity High
2School; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer held a deep appreciation for music,
4attending more than a dozen concerts by the Rolling Stones and
5many performances of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra; she
6cherished spending time at her family home in Osage Beach,
7Missouri, where she enjoyed hosting many gatherings; she loved
8the Christmas season, and she was an avid fan of Purdue
9University basketball; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer never met a stranger, and she had a
11remarkable gift for welcoming new friends into her heart; she
12valued being a mother above all else; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer was preceded in death by her
14parents-in-law, Wallace and Faye Farmer, and her
15siblings-in-law, Connie Farmer and Larry Lowe; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Janell Farmer is survived by her husband of 43
17years, Jim Farmer; her son, Grant (Jenna) Farmer; her
18grandson, Theodore Farmer; her parents, William and Mary
19Hilton; her brothers, Dr. Mark (Denise) Hilton and Dr. Richard
20(Judy) Hilton; her in-laws, Carol Lowe, Nancy Selinger, Bob
21Selinger, and Bill Farmer; several nieces and nephews; and her
22twin schnoodles, Hans and Franz; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Janell Farmer and extend our sincere condolences to her
4family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Janell Farmer as an expression of
8our deepest sympathy.
