| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Zachary Charles "Zackie" Monroe of |
| 4 | | Bartonville, formerly of Peoria, who passed away on January |
| 5 | | 19, 2026; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Zackie Monroe was born in Peoria on July 8, 1931; |
| 7 | | he graduated from Bradley University; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Zackie Monroe's baseball career began in 1952 |
| 9 | | before being interrupted by his military service; he returned |
| 10 | | to the sport in June 1958, posting a 10-2 record for the |
| 11 | | Triple-A minor league team the Denver Bears; he was then |
| 12 | | called up by the New York Yankees, making his major league |
| 13 | | debut by pitching three and one-third hitless innings of |
| 14 | | relief against the Kansas City Athletics; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Zackie Monroe pitched an additional 20 games for |
| 16 | | the Yankees, making six starts and registering a complete game |
| 17 | | victory in September 1958 against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee |
| 18 | | Stadium; he played in the 1958 World Series, where the Yankees |
| 19 | | ultimately won the team's 18th World Series Championship; he |
| 20 | | pitched three games in relief for the Yankees in 1959 before |
| 21 | | being sent down to the Triple-A league; he remained in the |
| 22 | | minor leagues before retiring in 1962; and |
