SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Eddie Joseph Godwin; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin was born to Edward and Edra Godwin
5on September 5, 1943; he had the gift of working with his hands
6and studied bricklaying at Dunbar High School; he married
7Valerie Tucker; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin became a union mason and earned a
9reputation as one of the best in the City of Chicago; he worked
10with Lloyd Moore of Moore Construction Company and later
11served the Chicago Park District; he ultimately retired from
12the City of Chicago Department of Transportation after years
13of dedicated service; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin was affectionately know as
15"Bedrock", a nickname he earned from his favorite pastime,
16watching TV; he was passionate and highly opinionated,
17especially about the topics that mattered most to him,
18politics, history, and sports; his bricklaying career was part
19of his calling and, as a young man, he built his parents'
20garage; later in his life, he built the garage at the building
21where he lived; and

1    WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin loved his family and was deeply
2involved in their lives; he took pride in being present,
3supporting their goals, showing up for what mattered, and
4making sure his loved ones knew they could count on him; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin was preceded in death by his
6siblings, Edward Jr., John, and Lorraine, and his grandson,
7Clarence; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin is survived by his wife, Valerie
9Godwin; his daughters, Alderman Michelle (John) Harris, Zina
10Marshall, Corthenia Davis, Yolanda Tucker, Shonda (Kevin)
11Tucker, and Ashley Tillman; his grandchildren, Loren, Marshon,
12John, DeVoe, Frederick, Alexus, Tyler, Cornelius Jr., Yaseen,
13and Skylar; his nieces, Yolanda and Mia; his nephew, John
14Godwin Jr.; and numerous cousins and extended family members;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Eddie Joseph Godwin and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Eddie Godwin as a symbol of our
