SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Christian Jon "CJ" Law, who passed
4away on December 14, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, CJ Law, the son of Demetrius and LaTanya Law, was
6born on January 8, 2002; from a young age, his love for animals
7was evident as he lovingly cared for a bearded dragon, a cat,
8and his dog, Wheatie; he also possessed a passion for
9athletics, earning USATF National Junior Olympics Indoor
10All-American honors in the 400-meter race in 2016 and
11competing with distinction for the Zephyrs Track Club, the St.
12Rita High School football team, and the Tinley Park High
13School track and field team, where he was part of the school's
14first-ever qualifying 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams; and
 
15    WHEREAS, CJ Law earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal
16and Veterinary Sciences from Tuskegee University, where he was
17a member of the football team, earned SIAC All-Academic
18Honors, and became a legacy member of Kappa Alpha Psi
19Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Epsilon Chapter, in 2022; during his
20college career, he was recognized as a Pre-Vet Med Scholar and
21an honors student, and he worked at VCA Animal Hospital, the
22Tuskegee Biology Laboratory, and the Tuskegee University Farm;

1    WHEREAS, CJ Law participated in the Vet Up! program at
2Purdue University, where his groundbreaking research on
3Alzheimer's disease in chimpanzees earned him the award for
4Best Capstone Project, and he completed the qualifications to
5receive his certification in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
6in Veterinary Medicine; he conducted significant research and
7earned clinical experiences at the University of Florida,
8Purdue University, and the United States Department of
9Agriculture (USDA); he contributed to important studies on
10dairy cow nutrition, immune response, and heat stress
11tolerance, assisted in diagnostics and surgical procedures,
12and gained extensive experience in USDA food safety and
13compliance; most recently, he pursued studies at Ross
14University School of Veterinary Medicine; and
 
15    WHEREAS, CJ Law was an adventurer at heart who embraced
16life with enthusiasm and curiosity while welcoming new
17experiences, including surfing and parasailing, with joy and
18fearlessness; and
 
19    WHEREAS, CJ Law was kind, disciplined, thoughtful, and
20deeply devoted to his family; he lived quietly but powerfully,
21inspiring others through his work ethic, integrity, and
22generous spirit, and his life will serve as a testament to
23faith, perseverance, and purpose; and

1    WHEREAS, CJ Law was preceded in death by his father,
2Demetrius Law; his grandmother, PeCola Law; and his
3grandfathers, Jon Law and De Armond Mathews; and
 
4    WHEREAS, CJ Law is survived by his mother, LaTanya Law;
5his brother, William Caldwell; his grandmother, Rhonda "Nana"
6Mathews; his uncles, De Armond (Courtney) Mathews Jr. and
7Ber'Tram Law Jr.; his aunts, DeMeica Mathews and Ouidie
8Pollard; his godmother, Senator Kimberly A. Lightford; his
9bonus father, Honorable Consul Michael Fountain; and a vast
10community of family, friends, mentors, and brothers;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Christian Jon "CJ" Law and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of CJ Law as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
