SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Proviso East High School of Maywood on the
4occasion of receiving a Commendable designation by the
5Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) two years in a row;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Proviso East High School, founded in 1910 and
8home of the Pirates, currently serves students from the
9surrounding communities of Broadview, Forest Park, Maywood,
10and Melrose; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Proviso East High School has steadily risen from
12receiving a Comprehensive designation by the ISBE, marking it
13as one of the bottom 5% of schools in the State, to receiving a
14Targeted designation three years ago before earning a
15Commendable designation the last two years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Proviso East High School has seen its graduation
17rates increase more than 10%, with the rate of its ninth-grade
18students being on track to graduate on time increasing by 20%,
19and the school has also had its truancy rates decline by nearly
2020%; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Proviso East High School has undergone this

1resurgence in educational quality and reputation through the
2collective efforts and dedication of Principal Rodney Hull,
3his team, and the students themselves; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Proviso East High School will be honored for its
5many accomplishments at a community dinner hosted by Village
6of Maywood Mayor George Booker, the Village Board of Trustees,
7and Healthy Maywood West Cook partners on February 5, 2026;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
11Proviso East High School on earning a Commendable designation
12by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) two years in a
13row, and we wish its staff and students continued success; and
14be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Principal Rodney Hull of Proviso East High School
17as an expression of our esteem and respect.
