| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Thomas "Tom" Friye of Quincy, who |
| 4 | | passed away on January 31, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye, the son of Ted and Glenora (Heubner) |
| 6 | | Friye, was born in Quincy on January 31, 1942; he attended St. |
| 7 | | Francis Grade School and graduated from Christian Brothers |
| 8 | | Catholic High School in 1960; he also took classes at Iowa |
| 9 | | State University to become a registered landscape architect; |
| 10 | | he married Nancy Bardon at St. John Catholic Church on October |
| 11 | | 8, 1966; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye briefly worked for Grieving Sheet-Metal |
| 13 | | before joining Hamann Florist, where he worked for 10 years; |
| 14 | | he began working for Bergman Nurseries in January 1971 and |
| 15 | | stayed for 28 years; he and his three sons purchased Bergman |
| 16 | | Nurseries from the Bergman family in 1999, which became a |
| 17 | | highlight of his career; he was well-known in and around the |
| 18 | | Quincy area for his artistic and design abilities in landscape |
| 19 | | architecture, and after 41 years in the landscaping business, |
| 20 | | he retired in June 2012; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye served on numerous local boards and |
| 22 | | organizations, including the Quincy Roman Catholic Cemetery |

| 1 | | Board for over 30 years, the Quincy Tree Commission, and the |
| 2 | | Quincy Notre Dame High School (QND) Board of Directors; he |
| 3 | | also coached baseball through the Quincy Park District for |
| 4 | | many years; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye thoroughly enjoyed following all of his |
| 6 | | sons' sports and school activities, and he was passionate |
| 7 | | about QND sports; he and his wife enjoyed traveling, going on |
| 8 | | many wonderful trips with his sister and brother-in-law, |
| 9 | | Carolyn and Denny Lubbe, as well as vacations with his |
| 10 | | lifelong friends, Tom and Shirley Kane; he also enjoyed |
| 11 | | hunting and fishing with family and friends; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye was a steadfast husband, father, |
| 13 | | grandfather, and great-grandfather; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 15 | | his in-laws, Harold and Alvera Bardon; and his |
| 16 | | brothers-in-law, Bruce Bardon and Roger Bockhaus; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Tom Friye is survived by his wife of 59 years, |
| 18 | | Nancy; his sons, Todd (Dee) Friye, Travis (Pam) Friye, and |
| 19 | | Trevor (April) Friye; seven grandchildren; two |
| 20 | | great-grandchildren; his sister, Carolyn (Denny) Lubbe; his |
| 21 | | sister-in-law, Barbara Bardon Bockhaus; and numerous nieces |
| 22 | | and nephews; therefore, be it |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 3 | | Thomas "Tom" Friye and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 4 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 5 | | further |
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to the family of Tom Friye as an expression of our |
| 8 | | deepest sympathy. |
