| 4 | | communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors; |

| 6 | | WHEREAS, Symptoms of autism appear in early childhood and |
| 7 | | vary widely in severity, ranging from needing substantial |
| 8 | | support to living independently; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Autism affects millions of Americans, with one in |
| 10 | | 36 children having been diagnosed with autism; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Significant progress towards equality for people |
| 12 | | with autism has been made over the years, driven in large part |
| 13 | | by advocates who have worked tirelessly to bring the lived |
| 14 | | experiences of individuals with autism to the forefront; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Despite this progress, people with autism |
| 16 | | continue to routinely face unnecessary obstacles, including in |
| 17 | | regards to securing employment and health care, and children |
| 18 | | with autism still face bullying and barriers to education; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Autism Awareness Day provides an opportunity to |
