SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS; Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental
3condition characterized by challenges with social
4communication, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Symptoms of autism appear in early childhood and
7vary widely in severity, ranging from needing substantial
8support to living independently; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Autism affects millions of Americans, with one in
1036 children having been diagnosed with autism; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Significant progress towards equality for people
12with autism has been made over the years, driven in large part
13by advocates who have worked tirelessly to bring the lived
14experiences of individuals with autism to the forefront; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Despite this progress, people with autism
16continue to routinely face unnecessary obstacles, including in
17regards to securing employment and health care, and children
18with autism still face bullying and barriers to education; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Autism Awareness Day provides an opportunity to
20increase the understanding and acceptance of people with

2    WHEREAS, The United Nations began recognizing April 2nd as
3World Autism Day in 2007; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 2,
62026 as Autism Awareness Day in the State of Illinois.
