SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Tribute to Valor Foundation was founded in
32018 as an all-volunteer organization focused on influencing,
4inspiring, and impacting the youth of America to ask
5themselves "Who Am I?" and to answer by reflecting on the six
6core character values derived from our nation's highest
7military decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Tribute to Valor Foundation works to help the
9youth of America to understand, engage in, and incorporate
10into their daily lives the core values of the Medal of Honor;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, The six core values of the Medal of Honor are
13courage, sacrifice, patriotism, citizenship, integrity, and
14commitment; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Courage is the mental and moral strength to face
16fear, danger, and adversity, and includes both physical and
17moral courage, and it is the willingness to stand up for what
18is right, even when it is unpopular or difficult, and the
19strength to defend those that are disenfranchised or
20mistreated; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sacrifice is a voluntary act of surrendering

1personal interests for a greater cause and involves a selfless
2surrender of one's own interests or well-being for the
3betterment of another, and it is often considered an act of
4love or a demonstration of a deeper principle; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Patriotism is a devotion to and defense of the
6ideals of our country and is a sense of purpose derived from
7supporting the nation and its freedoms, and it manifests
8through disciplined service, commitment, and a belief in
9something greater than oneself; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Citizenship is the status of being a responsible
11member of a community, which includes both rights and
12responsibilities, and it means understanding your rights and
13duties, following rules, respecting others, and contributing
14positively to your community through actions such as teamwork
15and helping others; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Integrity is the desire to do what is right,
17legally and morally, which includes honesty, a firm adherence
18to moral and ethical principles, and acting consistently with
19one's values even when no one is watching, and it means being
20truthful and upright, saying what you mean, and doing what you
21say, with integrity forming the foundation of trust, a value
22that requires both personal moral courage and a commitment;

1    WHEREAS, Commitment is a pledge or an obligation to do
2something in the present and future, including a strong
3dedication to a cause, a person, or an activity, and it is the
4belief that giving your word and standing behind it is
5honorable and that you fulfill your promise despite any
6obstacles or adversity you might face; and
 
7    WHEREAS, By empowering the youth of America to face
8adversity and changing circumstances with the core values of
9the Medal of Honor, the Tribute to Valor Foundation hopes the
10next generation will gain the strength to make choices of
11which they can be proud and that will help them to become
12better citizens; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support and
15encourage all residents to support the Tribute to Valor
16Foundation and its mission to inspire the youth of America and
17all people to ask themselves the question "Who Am I?" and to
18answer by reflecting on the six core values of the Medal of
19Honor; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we encourage and support activities and
21educational programs that invite veterans, first responders,
22and other role models to share how the six core values of the

1Medal of Honor have helped them commit to a life of service and
2have assisted them in times of adversity.
