SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Eric M. Dean on the occasion of his retirement as
4president of the International Association of Bridge,
5Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Eric Dean, born and raised in Chicago, began his
7career as an ironworker after joining the apprenticeship
8program as a fourth-generation member of Local Union No. 63 in
9December 1980, completing his apprenticeship in 1984; he
10worked as a journeyman, foreman, and apprentice instructor
11before becoming a local union officer in 1989, and he
12ultimately held various offices within Local Union No. 63; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Eric Dean was appointed general organizer of the
14International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental
15and Reinforcing Iron Workers in 1999, working in the
16Department of Ornamental, Architectural and Miscellaneous
17Metals; he became president of the Chicago and Vicinity
18District Council of Iron Workers in 2005; he was appointed 9th
19general vice president in 2008; he was elected as general
20secretary of the International Association of Bridge,
21Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers by
22delegates to the union's 42nd International Convention in
232011; during his tenure, he graduated from the Harvard Labor

1Trade Program in 2013; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Eric Dean was unanimously elected general
3president by the General Executive Council of the
4International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental
5and Reinforcing Iron Workers on April 22, 2015, which became
6effective on July 1, 2015; he was then elected as general
7president for a five-year term by the delegates to the 43rd
8International Convention in August 2016; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Eric Dean further served the union through his
10work as secretary of the National Coordinating Committee for
11Multiemployer Plans (NCCMP), a position he was elected to in
122015, and as a member on the Governing Board of Presidents of
13North America's Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and the
14Executive Council of the American Federation of Labor and
15Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), representing
16130,000 union ironworkers; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Eric Dean provided more than four decades of
18dedicated service to the International Association of Bridge,
19Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, during
20which his unwavering leadership strengthened the union,
21expanded opportunities for working families, and raised the
22bar for safety and solidarity across North America before
23concluding his tenure on December 31, 2025; and

1    WHEREAS, Eric Dean is the husband of Judy, and they are the
2proud parents of three and grandparents of six; therefore, be
3it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Eric
6M. Dean on his retirement as president of the International
7Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing
8Iron Workers, thank him for his continued service and
9dedication to the union and its members, and wish him all the
10best in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Eric Dean as an expression of our esteem and
13respect.
