SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Ofelia Giselle "Ofe" Torres Hidalgo of 
4Chicago, who passed away on February 13, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo, born on April 12, 2009, was a 
6junior at Lakeview High School in Chicago, where she was known 
7for her academic presence and her fierce spirit of compassion; 
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo had been most recently 
10dedicating her efforts towards establishing a cancer awareness 
11club at her school, a mission born from her desire to provide 
12support and a louder voice for children navigating their own 
13brave battles; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo, at just 16 years old, left an 
15indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she met, teaching all 
16the true meaning of grace and advocacy; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo was a cherished daughter, a 
18loving and protective sister, a dear granddaughter, a 
19treasured niece, and a beloved girlfriend who possessed a soul 
20of rare beauty, kindness, selflessness, and courage; and

1    WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo was the daughter of Sandibell 
2Hidalgo and Ruben Torres; the sister of Nathan Axel Torres 
3Hidalgo; the girlfriend of Alexis Soriano; the granddaughter 
4of Lucrecia Herrera and the late Ofelia and Ruben Torres; the 
5niece of Abigail, Eneida, Hury, Cervando, Rutila, Miriam, 
6Giovanni, Humberto, Joulisa, Lucy, Alex, Valdemar, Tony, Yari, 
7Jorge, Pablo, Martin, Lourdes, Vicky, Ubert, Baldo, Samantha, 
8and Alexis; the student and friend of Valerie Wadycki; and the 
9cousin and friend of many; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
12Ofelia Giselle "Ofe" Torres Hidalgo and extend our sincere 
13condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
14her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the family of Ofe Torres Hidalgo as an expression 
17of our deepest sympathy.
