SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Minnie Pearl (Collins) Taylor, who passed away on January 4, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor was born to Johnny and Minnie Lee Collins in Belzoni, Mississippi; after her mother's passing in 1966, she moved to Springfield, Illinois, where she became a member of Southeast High School's first graduating class in 1968; and

WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor had an extensive work history; she worked for Angelica in St. Louis, Missouri, and she retired from International Mason in Detroit, Michigan in 2016; upon returning to Illinois, she worked for Cahokia Unit School District #187; and

WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor committed to her faith at an early age, and she found her church family at Love Outreach Ministries; and

WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend who was known for her kindness, grace, and love; and

WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sharron Marie Swanson; and her sisters, Dorothy Collins and Ollie Carter-Gilliam; and

WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor is survived by her children, James (Terri) Scurlark, Dr. Stephanie Scurlark (Senator Christopher) Belt, and Latasha Bailey (Talmadge) Johnson; her siblings, Johnny Collins Jr., Vira Williams, Anna Bell (Authur) Gordon, and Eloise Collins; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Minnie Pearl (Collins) Taylor and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Minnie Pearl Taylor as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
