SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Minnie Pearl (Collins) Taylor, who
4passed away on January 4, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor was born to Johnny and Minnie
6Lee Collins in Belzoni, Mississippi; after her mother's
7passing in 1966, she moved to Springfield, Illinois, where she
8became a member of Southeast High School's first graduating
9class in 1968; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor had an extensive work
11history; she worked for Angelica in St. Louis, Missouri, and
12she retired from International Mason in Detroit, Michigan in
132016; upon returning to Illinois, she worked for Cahokia Unit
14School District #187; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor committed to her faith at an
16early age, and she found her church family at Love Outreach
17Ministries; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor was a beloved mother, sister,
19grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend who
20was known for her kindness, grace, and love; and

1    WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl was preceded in death by her
2parents; her daughter, Sharron Marie Swanson; and her sisters,
3Dorothy Collins and Ollie Carter-Gilliam; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Minnie Pearl Taylor is survived by her children,
5James (Terri) Scurlark, Dr. Stephanie Scurlark (Senator
6Christopher) Belt, and Latasha Bailey (Talmadge) Johnson; her
7siblings, Johnny Collins Jr., Vira Williams, Anna Bell
8(Authur) Gordon, and Eloise Collins; ten grandchildren; and
9five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Minnie Pearl (Collins) Taylor and extend our sincere
13condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Minnie Pearl Taylor as an
17expression of our deepest sympathy.
