SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Henry Jordan, Ed.D, who passed
4away on February 15, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Jordan was born to Ordella and Eugene Jordan
6in Waynesboro, Mississippi on January 17, 1943; he attended
7Chapel Hill Elementary School, and he graduated from Riverview
8High School in 1960; he received a Bachelor of Science in
9Elementary Education from Tennessee State University in 1964,
10a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Olivet
11Nazarene College in 1972, and a Doctor of Education in Adult
12and Continuing Education from the University of Sarasota in
131977; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Jordan served as a teacher, a coach, an
15assistant principal, a businessman, a television host, an
16author, and a mentor to many; he was noted for executing these
17roles with distinction and grace, and his name became
18well-known throughout the communities of Waynesboro,
19Mississippi and Kankakee and Springfield, Illinois; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Jordan lived a life defined by purpose,
21leadership, and an unwavering commitment to others; he was
22always attentive to opportunities to encourage, empower, and

1elevate those around him, and he nurtured others by always
2offering them wisdom and warmth; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Jordan is survived by his wife of 33 years,
4Gloria Jordan; his brother, Jimmie Jordan; his children, Karla
5Runnells, Jan (Jess) Gathing, and Roderick Jordan; four
6grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
7godchildren, and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10John Henry Jordan, Ed.D, and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of John Jordan as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
