SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Father Daniel Mirabelli, CSV of Moline, who passed away on February 21, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli, the son of John and Lena (Micelli) Mirabelli, was born in Chicago on September 24, 1931; he graduated from Fenwick High School, entered the Clerics of St. Viator in January of 1951, and was ordained into the priesthood by Bishop Coussens in Joliet on May 28, 1960; he earned degrees from Viatorian Seminary, Loyola University, DePaul University, and St. Ambrose University, which granted him an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree in May 2004; and

WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli taught at St. Benedict Preparatory School and St. Viator High School before arriving at Alleman High School in June 1966 and spending 57 years serving in a variety of roles including teacher, chaplain, business manager, and director of development, a position in which he thrived; he was instrumental in creating unique fundraisers that became Alleman traditions, but his primary mission was ensuring Catholic education was affordable for any student who wanted to attend; he also assisted at many of the parishes in the Quad Cities and presided over countless weddings, baptisms, and funerals; and

WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rock Island and East Moline Rotary, and Rock Island Kiwanis; he received a number of honors, including the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal from Pope John Paul II in 1993, the Sandy Ninninger Award from Kiwanis International in 1995, and Citizen of the Year for the City of Rock Island in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli was a friend and spiritual advisor to many; he loved to travel, listen to opera and classical music, and cheer from the sidelines at Alleman events; and

WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Alfredo; and

WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli is survived by his sister, Marianna Dituro; his niece, Linda Dituro; his Viatorian community; and his Alleman family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Father Daniel Mirabelli, CSV and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Father Mirabelli as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
