SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Father Daniel Mirabelli, CSV of
4Moline, who passed away on February 21, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli, the son of John and Lena
6(Micelli) Mirabelli, was born in Chicago on September 24,
71931; he graduated from Fenwick High School, entered the
8Clerics of St. Viator in January of 1951, and was ordained into
9the priesthood by Bishop Coussens in Joliet on May 28, 1960; he
10earned degrees from Viatorian Seminary, Loyola University,
11DePaul University, and St. Ambrose University, which granted
12him an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree in May 2004; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli taught at St. Benedict
14Preparatory School and St. Viator High School before arriving
15at Alleman High School in June 1966 and spending 57 years
16serving in a variety of roles including teacher, chaplain,
17business manager, and director of development, a position in
18which he thrived; he was instrumental in creating unique
19fundraisers that became Alleman traditions, but his primary
20mission was ensuring Catholic education was affordable for any
21student who wanted to attend; he also assisted at many of the
22parishes in the Quad Cities and presided over countless
23weddings, baptisms, and funerals; and

1    WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli was a member of the Knights of
2Columbus, the Rock Island and East Moline Rotary, and Rock
3Island Kiwanis; he received a number of honors, including the
4Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal from Pope John Paul II in 1993,
5the Sandy Ninninger Award from Kiwanis International in 1995,
6and Citizen of the Year for the City of Rock Island in 2007;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli was a friend and spiritual
9advisor to many; he loved to travel, listen to opera and
10classical music, and cheer from the sidelines at Alleman
11events; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli was preceded in death by his
13parents and an infant brother, Alfredo; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Father Mirabelli is survived by his sister,
15Marianna Dituro; his niece, Linda Dituro; his Viatorian
16community; and his Alleman family; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Father Daniel Mirabelli, CSV and extend our sincere
20condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21him; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Father Mirabelli as an expression
3of our deepest sympathy.
