SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, March 23 commemorates the adoption of the Lahore
3Resolution of 1940, a defining event in a movement
4characterized by democratic mobilization and the peaceful
5pursuit of freedom and rights that led to the creation of the
6independent state of Pakistan, now home to nearly 240 million
7people, on August 14, 1947; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is home to many members of
9the Pakistani diaspora, as well as organizations with
10longstanding economic, social, and cultural ties to Pakistan;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Pakistani Americans contribute to the State of
13Illinois in all fields, including healthcare, education,
14technology, industry, and business; and
 
15    WHEREAS, There is a need to further strengthen
16partnerships between Illinois and Pakistan in trade,
17investment, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchange
18programs; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The rich heritage and contributions of Pakistani
20Americans are celebrated in the State of Illinois, where
21diversity and inclusion are highly valued; and

1    WHEREAS, Pakistan Day will enhance awareness of the
2history, culture, and contributions of the Pakistani American
3community and allow all residents of Illinois to join in
4acknowledging the values of liberty, justice, and equality
5that resonate in both American and Pakistani cultures;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that that we declare March
923, 2026 as Pakistan Day in the State of Illinois; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we encourage the people of Illinois to
12celebrate this day with events and activities honoring the
13contributions of Pakistani Americans to our great State and to
14learn more about the rich Pakistani heritage while fostering
15an appreciation for this ancient culture among younger
16generations; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the Pakistan Consulate General in Chicago as a
19symbol of our respect and esteem.
