SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dominic Constantino Giacomini of
4Springfield, who passed away on February 19, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini was born to Domenic J. and Rose
6Mary (Scaduto) Giacomini in Springfield on April 24, 1934; he
7was raised in Springfield and graduated from St. Agnes Grade
8School and Cathedral Boys High School; he served in the United
9States Army during the Korean Conflict; he attended Bradley
10University and graduated from Western Illinois University; he
11earned his Master of Public Administration from the University
12of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini served as coach of the women's
14tennis program, the Prairie Stars, at Sangamon State
15University (SSU), known today as the University of Illinois
16Springfield (UIS), for 16 seasons from 1991 to 2007; under his
17direction, the Prairie Stars won 177 matches and secured eight
18regional titles from the National Association of
19Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and he coached 23 academic
20scholar-athletes as well as all-American and SSU/UIS Hall of
21Famer Carla Jimenez during his tenure; in recognition of his
22work and impact, he was inducted into the second class of the
23UIS Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015; and

1    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini, prior to SSU/UIS, served as a
2volunteer tennis coach at Ursuline Academy, where he began
3coaching in 1978 and led the team to three state tournaments in
4five years, and he coached tennis at Lincoln Land Community
5College for seven seasons; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini and his wife also hosted the
7Giacomini Tennis Academy every summer for more than 35 years,
8a program that continues to this day at the YMCA; more
9recently, he and his family helped run a summer YMCA camp with
10the support of several UIS tennis student-athletes; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini, outside of tennis, worked for
12the Illinois Department of Transportation - Urban Planning for
1332 years, retiring in 1991; he and his family ran, expanded,
14and incorporated Giacomini Parking in the Springfield Medical
15District, and he was also part of the family wedding video
16business; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini was a faithful member of
18Blessed Sacrament Church, and he was a member of the Sangamon
19County Regional Planning Commission; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini, known for his selflessness,
21was a committed family man who loved spending time with his

1children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren during pasta
2dinners, Lake Springfield events, family workdays, and holiday
3gatherings; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini was preceded in death by his
5parents; his teenage brother, Paul Giacomini; and his baby
6sister, Patricia Giacomini; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini is survived by his wife,
8Patricia "Pat" Giacomini, who he married in 1959; his
9children, Patrick (Debbie) Giacomini, Christine "Kay" (Steve)
10McClimans, Tom (Erin) Giacomini, Michelle (Greg) Williamson,
11Lisa (the late Jim) Giacomini-Fay, Angie (Mike) Walsh, and
12Nick (Danielle) Giacomini; 25 grandchildren; ten
13great-grandchildren, with three more on the way; and many
14special cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Dominic Constantino Giacomini and extend our sincere
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Dominic Giacomini as an expression
22of our deepest sympathy.
