SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Scott McFarland of Moline, who passed
4away on August 2, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Scott McFarland, the son of Donald and Karla
6(Pollack) McFarland, was born on August 10, 1983; he achieved
7the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts; he married his wife,
8Amber, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad
9Cities in Davenport, Iowa on August 23, 2008; and
 
10    WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Scott McFarland led the
11Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community
12Service (Serve Illinois), a 40-member, bipartisan board
13appointed by the Governor and administered by the Illinois
14Department of Human Services to strengthen communities through
15volunteerism, national service, and recognition; during his
16tenure, he was noted for caring deeply about the grant
17programs he administered and all the people behind those
18programs; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Scott McFarland was a passionate advocate for
20education and volunteerism; as an elected member of the
21Springfield School District 186 Board of Education, he pursued
22initiatives that he felt would improve the lives of all

1children in the district; at the start of the COVID-19
2pandemic, he organized a mutual aid group on Facebook,
3Springfield Families Helping Families, which expanded its
4membership to 32.2k under his guidance; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Scott McFarland was also fiercely political,
6reveling in debating online or in person, and he loved his time
7in Model Illinois Government, where he made lifelong friends;
8he also held interests in the Chicago Cubs, Star Trek, Marvel,
9the Less Than Jake band, Ghostbusters, the musical Hamilton,
10and his podcast; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Scott McFarland loved his children, Anastasia,
12Addison, and Clark, with every fiber of his being; he was proud
13of their accomplishments and enjoyed partaking in different
14activities with them, such as volunteering for events with
15Anastasia, going on walks on the I-74 bridge with Addison, and
16watching Transformers and Godzilla with Clark; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Scott McFarland was preceded in death by his
18aunt, Jennifer Pollack; his maternal grandparents, Sharon and
19Joseph Pollack; his paternal grandparents, Donald and Diane
20McFarland; and his dog, Cody; and
 
21    WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Scott McFarland was
22survived by his wife; his children; his brothers, Craig (Zoey)

1McFarland and Ryan McFarland; his nephew, Liam McFarland; and
2his cousin, Jonathan Pollack; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Scott McFarland and extend our sincere condolences to his
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Scott McFarland as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
