SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate Ruth Perejda Deram Buehrer on the occasion of her
4100th birthday on January 16, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer, born on January 16, 1926, has lived
6in Libertyville nearly all of her 100 years; in her youth, she
7loved jumping rope and playing jacks with the nuns at the
8seminary; her family owned a combination tavern, store, and
9gas station, Pine Tree Corners, where she met Al Capone; she
10attended Libertyville Township High School, now Libertyville
11High School, where she was a majorette and also one of the
12first female drum majors in the school's history; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has worked in a variety of
14occupations, including as an AT&T switchboard operator,
15Lakeco/North Shore Sign secretary, St. Lawrence Episcopal
16Church sexton, and in real estate; she ran for mayor of
17Libertyville in 1973, and although she did not win, her
18campaign resulted in an otherwise unopposed candidate writing
19a platform; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has volunteered for many
21organizations, including Lambs Farm, the Libertyville
22Historical Society, Lions Club, and the Lakeside Cemetery

1Board and Veterans Memorial; she has been a member of the
2American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years, serving as its
3president for 20 years; she previously played Mrs. Santa at
4the MainStreet Libertyville holiday celebration for 18 years;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has always loved caring for dogs,
7cats, and other animals; she enjoys bowling, having founded
8the ladies' Majorettes bowling league and bowled for over 60
9years, as well as watching sports and game shows on
10television, playing bingo, and listening to big band music;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has been a member of the St.
13Lawrence Episcopal Church for more than 75 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer is the matriarch of a large family;
15she and her late husband Ray DeRam had four children, Phyllis,
16the late Kathy, Michele, and James, and she also has 14
17grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 14
18great-great-grandchildren; she later married Richard Buehrer,
19who has since passed away; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ruth
22Perejda Deram Buehrer on celebrating her 100th birthday; and
