| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
| 3 | congratulate Ruth Perejda Deram Buehrer on the occasion of her | ||||||
| 4 | 100th birthday on January 16, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer, born on January 16, 1926, has lived | ||||||
| 6 | in Libertyville nearly all of her 100 years; in her youth, she | ||||||
| 7 | loved jumping rope and playing jacks with the nuns at the | ||||||
| 8 | seminary; her family owned a combination tavern, store, and | ||||||
| 9 | gas station, Pine Tree Corners, where she met Al Capone; she | ||||||
| 10 | attended Libertyville Township High School, now Libertyville | ||||||
| 11 | High School, where she was a majorette and also one of the | ||||||
| 12 | first female drum majors in the school's history; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has worked in a variety of | ||||||
| 14 | occupations, including as an AT&T switchboard operator, | ||||||
| 15 | Lakeco/North Shore Sign secretary, St. Lawrence Episcopal | ||||||
| 16 | Church sexton, and in real estate; she ran for mayor of | ||||||
| 17 | Libertyville in 1973, and although she did not win, her | ||||||
| 18 | campaign resulted in an otherwise unopposed candidate writing | ||||||
| 19 | a platform; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has volunteered for many | ||||||
| 21 | organizations, including Lambs Farm, the Libertyville | ||||||
| 22 | Historical Society, Lions Club, and the Lakeside Cemetery | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Board and Veterans Memorial; she has been a member of the | ||||||
| 2 | American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years, serving as its | ||||||
| 3 | president for 20 years; she previously played Mrs. Santa at | ||||||
| 4 | the MainStreet Libertyville holiday celebration for 18 years; | ||||||
| 5 | and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has always loved caring for dogs, | ||||||
| 7 | cats, and other animals; she enjoys bowling, having founded | ||||||
| 8 | the ladies' Majorettes bowling league and bowled for over 60 | ||||||
| 9 | years, as well as watching sports and game shows on | ||||||
| 10 | television, playing bingo, and listening to big band music; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer has been a member of the St. | ||||||
| 13 | Lawrence Episcopal Church for more than 75 years; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Ruth Buehrer is the matriarch of a large family; | ||||||
| 15 | she and her late husband Ray DeRam had four children, Phyllis, | ||||||
| 16 | the late Kathy, Michele, and James, and she also has 14 | ||||||
| 17 | grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 14 | ||||||
| 18 | great-great-grandchildren; she later married Richard Buehrer, | ||||||
| 19 | who has since passed away; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ruth | ||||||
| 22 | Perejda Deram Buehrer on celebrating her 100th birthday; and | ||||||
