SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Butler McGee Jr. of Chicago, who
4passed away on March 2, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Butler McGee, the son of Butler and Annie
6(Cozark) McGee Sr., was born in Hayti, Missouri on February
720, 1937; he married Odessa Kirkendall; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After moving to Chicago in 1955, Butler McGee
9worked as a taxi driver for nearly 25 years and later became an
10entrepreneur; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Butler McGee loved spending time with his family,
12visiting the racetrack and casinos, and playing card games,
13and he enjoyed watching basketball games and westerns on
14television; he maintained a neat and well-groomed appearance
15throughout his life, receiving help from his grandson when his
16health began to change; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Butler McGee had a loving nature and was unafraid
18to defend what he valued; his strength, resilience, and
19integrity were an inspiration to those who loved him; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Butler McGee was preceded in death by his

1parents; his siblings, Bertha, Clara, Elijah Sr., General,
2Leonard, Nathaniel, and Roosevelt; his daughter, Paulette; and
3his son-in-law, Matthew Jr.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Butler McGee is survived by his daughters, Lillie
5and Sharry; his son, Reginald (Beverly); his bonus daughter,
6Arvetta (Greg); eight grandsons; five granddaughters; 22
7great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three close
8friends, Rose, Lonnie, and Linda; and a host of nieces,
9nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Butler McGee Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Butler McGee as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
