SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Recent federal fiscal year data has revealed
3approximately four million reports were made to child
4protective services nationwide; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect are serious problems
6affecting every segment of our community, and finding
7solutions requires input and action from everyone; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Our children are our most valuable resources and
9the future of our communities; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Child abuse can leave long-term psychological,
11emotional, and physical effects that have lasting consequences
12for victims of abuse; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Protective factors are conditions that reduce or
14eliminate risk and promote the social, emotional, and
15developmental well-being of children; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Effective child abuse prevention activities
17succeed because of the partnerships created between child
18welfare professionals, educators, health professionals,
19community members, faith-based organizations, businesses, law
20enforcement agencies, and families; and

1    WHEREAS, For 40 years, the La Rabida Children's Advocacy
2Center in the south suburbs of Chicago has provided critical
3care, advocacy, and support to children and families,
4strengthening our communities and fostering safe, stable, and
5nurturing environments; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Communities must make every effort to promote
7programs and activities that create strong and thriving
8children and families; and
 
9    WHEREAS, We must work together as a community to increase
10awareness about child abuse and to contribute to promoting the
11social and emotional well-being of children and families in
12safe, stable, and nurturing environments; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Prevention remains the best defense for our
14children and families; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 2026
17as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the State of Illinois; and
18be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That we urge all Illinoisans to recognize this
20month by dedicating themselves to the task of improving the
