SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Nancy Kay Olsen, who passed away on
4March 19, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen was born to Thomas C. and Flossea K.
6"Kathryn" (McKinney) Wanless in Springfield on March 11, 1950;
7she spent her childhood living in various places, including
8California and Las Vegas, Nevada, before returning to her
9birthplace during her senior year of high school, and she
10consequently graduated from Springfield High School before
11returning to Las Vegas; she married Wm. Richard "Rick" Olsen
12in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 22, 1970; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After spending three years in Minneapolis, Nancy
14Olsen and her husband Rick moved to Williamsville, Illinois to
15be closer to her family; while there, she continued her
16education, taking accounting classes at Lincoln Land Community
17College; she invested her heart and soul into her family,
18managing various family businesses with a grace and efficiency
19that was admired by all who knew her, and her work included a
20nursery at Sangamon Prairie Pork Farm in Williamsville, the
21Country Corner General Store, previously known as Bud's
22Corner, in Springfield, and the Lithia Resort in Shelbyville
23for more than 20 years; and

1    WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen's faith was an integral part of her
2life, which she instilled in her family, guiding them with a
3gentle and steadfast hand; while residing in Williamsville,
4she was an active member of the Sherman United Methodist
5Church; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen's interests were as varied as they
7were fulfilling; she treasured spending time with her family,
8and her hobbies included traveling to Yuma, Arizona, immersing
9herself in the pages of a good book, meticulously piecing
10together puzzles, and tending to her cherished plants; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen was an exemplar of love and kindness
12and possessed a zest for life and a love of learning; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen was preceded in death by her parents;
14her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth McKinney; her son, Richard
15Thomas Olsen; her cousins-in-law, Kenny Jacobs, Bob Caudill,
16and Dawn Ketchum; her brother-in-law, Daniel Olsen; and her
17cousins, Susan Kilby, John Jacobs, and Tayna Jacobs; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Nancy Olsen is survived by her life partner of
19more than 50 years, Rick; her daughter, Cynthia (Andy) Alepra;
20her grandchildren, Paige and Aden Parmenter; her
21step-grandchildren, Kenneth Alepra and Joseph Alepra; her

1sister, Karen (Thomas) Frere; her nephews, Thomas (Heidi)
2Frere, Christopher (Jennifer) Frere, Jeffery (Anna) Olsen,
3Chad (Kayci) Olsen, and Tucker (Rachel) Olsen; her niece,
4Elizabeth (Matt) Starman; her stepbrother, Vernon (Elsie)
5Brink; her cousins, James Ketchum, Charles (Paula) Ketchum,
6and Mary Jacobs; her siblings-in-law, Nancy Jeanne Zins, Susan
7(John) Atchison, Micky Caudill, and Mark (Maria) Olsen; and
8several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and
9extended cousins; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Nancy Kay Olsen and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Nancy Olsen as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
