SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3recognize the Village of Brookfield on the occasion of the 
4rededication of its Bicentennial Liberty Bell in honor of 
5celebrating America 250, the United States' semiquincentennial 
6anniversary; and
 
7    WHEREAS, For America's bicentennial celebration in 1976, 
8the Village of Brookfield received a full-size replica of the 
9famous Liberty Bell, made by the same company, Whitechapel 
10Bell Foundry of London, that cast the original bell in 1752; 
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Village of Brookfield's Bicentennial Liberty 
13Bell was one of approximately 100, and one of just three in 
14Illinois, which were made available to cities and towns across 
15the United States to commemorate the nation's bicentennial in 
161976; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Village of Brookfield obtained its 
18Bicentennial Liberty Bell thanks to a group of residents who 
19formed the Brookfield Bicentennial Committee in 1975 to raise 
20the $14,300 needed to purchase and ship the bell; 
21subsequently, the committee raised money for the bell by 
22selling bell-shaped decals and bumper stickers, and they were

1further assisted by fundraisers hosted by community 
2organizations; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The Village of Brookfield received its 
4Bicentennial Liberty Bell on June 28, 1976, and it was 
5dedicated during a ceremonial bell-ringing event with U.S. 
6Congressman Ed Derwinski of the 4th Congressional District of 
7Illinois, which included Brookfield, on July 4, 1976; and
 
8    WHEREAS, As part of its 4th of July festivities, the 
9Village of Brookfield plans to rededicate the Bicentennial 
10Liberty Bell, located in the southwest corner of Kiwanis Park, 
11on July 4, 2026; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 
14Village of Brookfield on the rededication of its Bicentennial 
15Liberty Bell in honor of celebrating America 250, the United 
16States' semiquincentennial anniversary; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to the Village of Brookfield as an expression of our 
19esteem and respect.
