| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to |
| 3 | | congratulate Terrapin Flyer on the occasion of the band's 25th |
| 4 | | anniversary; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Terrapin Flyer, which aims to recapture the |
| 6 | | spirit and essence of the Grateful Dead by incorporating jazz, |
| 7 | | blues, and bluegrass into full-band improvisations, has its |
| 8 | | roots in a Grateful Dead jam night held at Chicago's Boulevard |
| 9 | | Cafe in 1999; the band began touring with Grateful Dead |
| 10 | | keyboardist Vince Welnick in 2001 and later toured with Melvin |
| 11 | | Seals, who played Hammond organ for the Jerry Garcia Band, and |
| 12 | | Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Terrapin Flyer has been regularly recognized as |
| 14 | | one of the best Grateful Dead cover bands; the band was joined |
| 15 | | on stage by Derek Trucks of the world-famous Tedeschi Trucks |
| 16 | | Band at Martyrs' music venue in Chicago in 2026 and continues |
| 17 | | to play sold-out shows around the country, as well as in Costa |
| 18 | | Rica and Europe; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Terrapin Flyer has been honored by the Grateful |
| 20 | | Guitars Foundation, which presented a guitar to band member |
| 21 | | Josh Olken and donated to The People's Music School in his name |
| 22 | | to provide free music instruction to Chicago area children in |
