SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Orlando Rivas of Buffalo Grove, who
4passed away on April 24, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas served as a parole officer in
6Chicago for 25 years; in retirement, he worked as an
7after-school security guard at Buffalo Grove High School for
8the past year; during his short time in this role, he was noted
9for his ability to connect with every kind of student,
10building meaningful relationships across the entire school
11community while making students feel seen, valued, and
12supported; and
 
13    WHEREAS, On the afternoon of April 21, 2026, while helping
14students cross the street at Buffalo Grove High School,
15Orlando Rivas shielded students from danger in the moments
16after a car accident, exuding a quiet heroism of selflessness
17and courage; in doing so, he sustained injuries that
18ultimately cost him his life; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas, even after his passing, continued
20to save lives as an organ donor, serving as a final, powerful
21testament to his generosity and his way of always supporting
22others; and

1    WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas was an amazing man, husband,
2father, and community member, and his legacy of connection,
3courage, and selflessness will live on through his family,
4friends, and the Buffalo Grove High School community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Orlando Rivas is survived by his wife, Erin, and
6four children; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Orlando Rivas and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Orlando Rivas as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
