| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of John Squibb, PhD of Chatham, formerly | ||||||
| 4 | of Mount Vernon, who passed away on April 3, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Squibb, the son of John William and Venita | ||||||
| 6 | Christine (Hamlin) Squibb, was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on | ||||||
| 7 | November 26, 1942; he earned his bachelor's and master's | ||||||
| 8 | degrees in history and political science from Southern | ||||||
| 9 | Illinois University Carbondale and his doctorate in American | ||||||
| 10 | constitutional history and law from the University of | ||||||
| 11 | Wisconsin - Madison; he married Mary Lou Rios in Springfield | ||||||
| 12 | on October 15, 1994, and she preceded him in death on September | ||||||
| 13 | 23, 2020; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Squibb was a history and political science | ||||||
| 15 | professor at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and the | ||||||
| 16 | University of Illinois Springfield, formerly Sangamon State | ||||||
| 17 | University, from 1970-2007, returning to LLCC soon after to | ||||||
| 18 | work as an adjunct instructor for 12 years; in his time at | ||||||
| 19 | LLCC, he served as Social Science Division chairperson and was | ||||||
| 20 | a member of the union, working for improved benefits, | ||||||
| 21 | conditions, and pay; he taught thousands of students and | ||||||
| 22 | maintained long-term friendships with many, and his colleagues | ||||||
| 23 | made an indelible impression on him with their dedication, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | talents, and commitment to higher education and learning; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Squibb was admired for his teaching skills | ||||||
| 3 | and classroom humor, receiving honors that included the | ||||||
| 4 | Western Illinois Most Inspirational Teacher Award in 2000, | ||||||
| 5 | multiple selections as a finalist for the Drs. Raymond and Ann | ||||||
| 6 | Pearson Master Teacher Award, the Master Teacher Award in | ||||||
| 7 | 2002, and the National Institute for Staff Organization and | ||||||
| 8 | Development Teaching Excellence Award; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Squibb attended Cherry Hills Baptist Church; | ||||||
| 10 | he loved attending spring training baseball games with family | ||||||
| 11 | in Arizona and watching Boston Red Sox baseball and Wisconsin | ||||||
| 12 | Badgers basketball and football; he enjoyed reading and being | ||||||
| 13 | with his pets, most recently his twin Yorkshire terriers, and | ||||||
| 14 | he missed spending time with his late wife most of all; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Squibb was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 16 | and his brother, William C. Squibb; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Dr. Squibb is survived by his daughters, Tanum | ||||||
| 18 | (Enrique) Smith and Tanya Smith; his son, Brad (Dawn) Squibb; | ||||||
| 19 | his grandchildren, Eric Smith, Allison (Zeke) Rowe, Connor | ||||||
| 20 | (Abigail) Smith, Jim Pounds, Royal Squibb, Peytin Bryant, and | ||||||
| 21 | Alexis Bryant; and his great-grandchildren, Rylee Rowe and | ||||||
| 22 | Wyola Wynn; therefore, be it | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 3 | John Squibb, PhD and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 5 | further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the family of Dr. Squibb as an expression of our | ||||||
| 8 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
