| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Howard Lane Beagles, who passed away |
| 4 | | on April 13, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles was born to Eugene and Frances |
| 6 | | (McGurk) Beagles in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 9, 1928; |
| 7 | | during the era of the Great Depression, he went to live with |
| 8 | | his aunt and uncle, Margaret "Maudie" (McGurk) and Guy |
| 9 | | Briscoe, in Springfield, Illinois, where he was raised and |
| 10 | | continued to live for many decades; he served in the United |
| 11 | | States Navy beginning in the spring of 1946, refurbishing |
| 12 | | battleships in California at the end of World War II; |
| 13 | | following his service, he returned home and married Mary Anne |
| 14 | | Renfro at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in |
| 15 | | Springfield on February 2, 1948, and she preceded him in death |
| 16 | | after 62 years of marriage on November 9, 2010; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles, a decent and humble man, worked |
| 18 | | very hard to take care of his family; he was employed at the |
| 19 | | Allis Chalmers Factory for years and then served the |
| 20 | | Springfield Fire Department for three decades beginning in |
| 21 | | 1960, retiring as fire marshal 30 years later; his commitment |
| 22 | | to public safety and his colleagues earned him deep respect |
| 23 | | throughout the community; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles was baptized into the Catholic |
| 2 | | faith on September 23, 1928; he and his wife were devoted |
| 3 | | parishioners of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, |
| 4 | | where they raised their family, served in the adult choir, and |
| 5 | | dedicated countless hours to parish activities, including PTA |
| 6 | | leadership, bingo nights, ice cream socials, and parish |
| 7 | | dinners; he was also a longtime member of the St. Vincent de |
| 8 | | Paul Society, carrying his faith into service to others; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles enjoyed playing pinochle and |
| 10 | | spending time with family and friends in retirement, visiting |
| 11 | | his children across Illinois and Tennessee; he moved in with |
| 12 | | his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Allen, in 2015, and he |
| 13 | | later divided his time between their home, the home of his son |
| 14 | | and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Cindy, in Palos Heights, and |
| 15 | | the home of his daughter, Anne, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; |
| 16 | | and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles' life was defined by faith, |
| 18 | | service, and love of family; he will be remembered for his |
| 19 | | kindness, humor, laughter, and storytelling; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles was preceded in death by his son, |
| 21 | | Barry Joseph (widow, April) Beagles; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Howard Beagles is survived by his children, Anne |
| 2 | | Raymond, Rita (Allen) Drake, Gerry (Cindy Haworth) Beagles, |
| 3 | | Fr. David Beagles, and Tom (Holly) Beagles; 15 grandchildren; |
| 4 | | and 32 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; |
| 5 | | therefore, be it |
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 8 | | Howard Lane Beagles and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 10 | | further |
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 12 | | presented to the family of Howard Beagles as an expression of |
| 13 | | our deepest sympathy. |
