| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Charles D. "Chuck" Ingram of | ||||||
| 4 | Harrisburg, who passed away on May 7, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram, the son of Joseph Ingram and Grace | ||||||
| 6 | (Warner) Ingram, was born in Neoga on January 19, 1935; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from Cumberland High School in 1954, where he was a | ||||||
| 8 | standout athlete in basketball, baseball, track, and cross | ||||||
| 9 | country; he married Mary "Marie" Cooper at the First Christian | ||||||
| 10 | Church in Toledo on April 19, 1955, and they were married for | ||||||
| 11 | 67 years prior to her passing on November 10, 2022; he earned | ||||||
| 12 | his bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Illinois | ||||||
| 13 | University and his master's degree in education from Indiana | ||||||
| 14 | State University; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram began his teaching career at | ||||||
| 16 | Cumberland High School in 1957, where he taught industrial | ||||||
| 17 | arts before transitioning into building trades; while there, | ||||||
| 18 | he coached Little League baseball in Toledo and a traveling | ||||||
| 19 | women's softball team; he began teaching industrial arts and | ||||||
| 20 | building trades at Red Hill Senior High School in Bridgeport | ||||||
| 21 | during the 1969-1970 school year, and he continued teaching | ||||||
| 22 | and coaching in the district until he and his family moved to | ||||||
| 23 | Harrisburg in 1974; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram taught industrial arts and building | ||||||
| 2 | trades at Harrisburg High School until he retired in 1994; | ||||||
| 3 | during his tenure, he and his students constructed 19 homes in | ||||||
| 4 | Harrisburg and the surrounding area, and he coached football | ||||||
| 5 | as well as boys and girls basketball; his lasting legacy to | ||||||
| 6 | Harrisburg High School was his dedication to its track and | ||||||
| 7 | cross country program; he coached boys track and cross country | ||||||
| 8 | beginning in 1974, and his team gained its first female member | ||||||
| 9 | in school history in 1975, leading to the school forming its | ||||||
| 10 | first girls track and cross country team in 1979; he also | ||||||
| 11 | coached the Gallatin County girls basketball team when he was | ||||||
| 12 | in his 70s, ultimately coaching for an amazing | ||||||
| 13 | 69-and-a-half-year span; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram received numerous commendations and | ||||||
| 15 | awards, including being recognized with a lifetime achievement | ||||||
| 16 | award by the River-to-River Runners of Southern Illinois, | ||||||
| 17 | being inducted into the Southern Illinois Coaches Hall of | ||||||
| 18 | Fame, and becoming the 2024 recipient of the Derril Kipp Award | ||||||
| 19 | by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram formerly served as a member of the | ||||||
| 21 | Saline County Board; he also operated a private construction | ||||||
| 22 | business, where he built, remodeled, and renovated a number of | ||||||
| 23 | residences in the Harrisburg area through the years; his | ||||||

| 1 | building skills and craftsmanship were also exemplified in | ||||||
| 2 | woodworking and furniture building projects; in his youth, he | ||||||
| 3 | was an avid hunter; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram was a longtime, faithful member of | ||||||
| 5 | the Harrisburg First Christian Church, where he served as an | ||||||
| 6 | elder and trustee for more than 30 years; he also served as | ||||||
| 7 | chairman of both the church board and the building and grounds | ||||||
| 8 | committee; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 10 | parents; his "granny", Rhoda Gentry; and his siblings, Eugene | ||||||
| 11 | Ingram, Louise Shook, Phyllis Branum, Kenneth Ingram, Ralph | ||||||
| 12 | Ingram, Gary Ingram, Helen Tilley, and George Lybarger; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Chuck Ingram is survived by his children, Leslie | ||||||
| 14 | C. "Les" Ingram and Renee M. (Dean Furlong) Williams; his | ||||||
| 15 | grandchildren, Jade (Beth) Goff, Craig (Maura) Williams, and | ||||||
| 16 | Morgan (Brian) Dalton; nine great-grandchildren; and his | ||||||
| 17 | brother, Bob Ingram; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 20 | Charles D. "Chuck" Ingram and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
| 21 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
| 22 | it further | ||||||
