SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate the De La Salle Institute boys soccer team, the
4Meteors, on winning the 2025 Illinois High School Association
5(IHSA) Class 2A State Championship; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Meteors secured the first state championship
7in program history with a thrilling victory over the
8Washington Community High School boys soccer team, the
9Panthers, in the IHSA Class 2A State Final Tournament held in
10Hoffman Estates on November 8, 2025; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Meteors completed an outstanding season with
12a 25-3-1 record, demonstrating extraordinary determination,
13teamwork, and resilience throughout the 2025 campaign; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Meteors captured the state title in dramatic
15fashion following two scoreless overtime periods and a
16penalty-kick victory in the championship match; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Meteors' Cesar Solano secured the
18championship-winning penalty kick for the team, while fellow
19players Fidel Orozco and Christian Flores also converted
20penalty kicks to help secure the historic victory; and

1    WHEREAS, The Meteors also achieved success thanks to the
2efforts of Alex Panduro, who scored a regulation goal in the
3championship match, and goalkeeper Gianni Luque, who delivered
4key saves during the penalty-kick period to preserve the
5team's victory; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Meteors' championship season came one year
7after the program's second-place finish in the 2024 IHSA Class
82A State Final Tournament, reflecting the perseverance and
9dedication of the team's student-athletes and coaching staff;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Meteors were led by Head Coach Francisco
12Martinez, a proud alumnus of De La Salle Institute, who
13provided outstanding leadership and guidance throughout the
14season and helped lead the team to its first state title in
15school history; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Meteors were further led by assistant coaches
17Carlos Nunez, Antonio Maldonado, Julio Martinez, and Tom
18Schergen, who all played an instrumental role in developing
19the character, discipline, and athletic excellence of the
20team's student-athletes; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Meteors' student-athletes represented their
22school, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois with

1sportsmanship, integrity, perseverance, and pride throughout
2their championship season; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the De
5La Salle Institute boys soccer team, the Meteors, on winning
6the 2025 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A
7State Championship, and we thank the players, coaches,
8families, and school community for their collective efforts in
9achieving this historic moment; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to De La Salle Institute as an expression of our
12esteem and respect.
