SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate the Retired State Employees Association (RSEA) on
4the occasion of its 50th anniversary of advocating for and
5protecting the rights and benefits of state retirees, their
6spouses, and survivors; and
 
7    WHEREAS, RSEA is a not-for-profit corporation under the
8General Not for Profit Corporation Act of the State of
9Illinois, whose Articles of Incorporation were filed with the
10Illinois Secretary of State on September 27, 1976, to support
11and protect the pension, other retirement benefits and the
12general welfare of our state retirees, their spouses, and
13survivors; and
 
14    WHEREAS, RSEA members are retired state employees who have
15given years of dedicated service to the State of Illinois; and
 
16    WHEREAS, RSEA membership has grown to over 9,000 strong
17with retirees from the State Employees Retirement System
18(SERS), the Judges Retirement System (JRS), and the General
19Assembly Retirement System (GARS); and
 
20    WHEREAS, RSEA is governed by a volunteer board, which
21includes a president, 1st and 2nd vice presidents, treasurer,

1secretary, and appointed board members, all of whom are state
2retirees or retiree spouses; and
 
3    WHEREAS, RSEA has used that strength to protect the rights
4and benefits of state retirees, their spouses, and survivors
5by maintaining reputable and effective representation at the
6state capitol to support required improvements in state
7provided benefits and vigorously oppose legislation, which
8would diminish state pensions and insurance benefits, tax
9retirement income, or divert pension funds from their sole
10purpose of providing benefits to state retirees; and
 
11    WHEREAS, RSEA has monthly membership meetings in
12Springfield with speakers presenting on diverse topics of
13interest to its members, including elected state officials,
14candidates for governor, senators, representatives, FBI,
15Alzheimer's Association, CMS, SERS, Age Linc and the State
16Fair Manager to name a few; members unable to attend the
17Springfield meeting may watch the recorded videos on YouTube
18or the RSEA website; and
 
19    WHEREAS, RSEA provides a monthly newsletter, The Reporter,
20to all of its members via email or the USPS, containing timely
21articles of interest to retirees, their spouses, and
22survivors; and

1    WHEREAS, RSEA provides members with a website containing
2articles on items of interest, monthly meeting or event
3information, and access to the members only portion where
4members can view videos of past monthly meetings and read past
5newsletters; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the
8Retired State Employees Association on its 50th anniversary of
9advocating for and protecting the rights and benefits of state
10retirees, their spouses, and survivors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we extend our best wishes to RSEA for
12continued success protecting and supporting state retirees,
13their spouses, and survivors; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we thank all members of RSEA for their many
15years of faithful service to the people of Illinois; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the Retired State Employees Association as an
19expression of our esteem and respect.
