SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dennis Eugene Laria of Elmwood Park, who passed away on May 20, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria, born on January 2, 1945, was raised in the Taylor Street neighborhood and attended Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago; later in life, he attended DePaul University, where he earned his bachelor's degree at the age of 50; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria spent most of his career as a vice president in banking, earning the trust and respect of colleagues and clients alike; after retiring, he continued his commitment to helping others through his service at Proviso Leyden Council for Community Action (PLCCA) in Maywood, supporting community programs with compassion and dedication for many years; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria, while working towards his bachelor's degree, earned a black belt in tae kwon do, reflecting his discipline and perseverance; he was also a dedicated runner for many years and completed multiple marathons, embracing the challenge and joy of long-distance running; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria loved traveling and spent many years exploring the world with his wife, Alice, and he especially cherished their many trips to Italy with family; he also valued the long-term friendships that enriched his life, maintaining close childhood and adult friendships that lasted until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria was a devoted husband, an adoring father, and a loving cousin, uncle, and friend to many; he will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, intelligence, dignity, and the rare ability to accept everyone without judgment; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria was preceded in death by his mother, Antoinette Laria, and his brother, Joseph Laria; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Laria is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice Laria; his daughters, Denise (John) Laria Burns, Jennifer (Mark) Siddons, and Amy Laria; six grandchildren; and his great-granddaughter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dennis Eugene Laria and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dennis Laria as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
