SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael B. Dickens, who passed away on
4August 6, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Dickens, the first of five children of
6Eleanor D. Dickens, was born on October 17, 1952; he was raised
7in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, where he also attended Highland
8Park Elementary School; he graduated from De Matha Catholic
9High School in Hyattsville, Maryland in 1970, and he received
10a bachelor's degree from Monmouth College in Monmouth,
11Illinois in 1974, playing football at both institutions; he
12married Debra Whitaker on December 29, 1973, and together they
13raised their children, Asha and Jabari, in the South Shore
14neighborhood of Chicago; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Michael Dickens worked at W.R. Grace and Company
16and Holy Angels Catholic School, where he left an indelible
17mark on his students, before retiring from AT&T in 2010; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Michael Dickens was a sports enthusiast
19throughout his life, and he enjoyed playing tennis,
20pickleball, basketball, and football; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Michael Dickens, while not a linguist, was fluent

1in his love language of caring for his family and home; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Michael Dickens is survived by his wife of 51
3years, Debra; his children, Asha and Jabari; his mother,
4Eleanor Stewart; his siblings, Darius Dickens, Kevin Young,
5and April (Kenneth) Prophet; his nieces and nephews; his
6cousins; his friends; and his former coworkers; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Michael B. Dickens and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Michael Dickens as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
