| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Steven Almon "Steve" Cornett of |
| 4 | | Danville, who passed away on May 27, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett, the son of Coy and Nancy Cornett, |
| 6 | | was born in Danville on December 2, 1961; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Danville High School in 1980 and earned his associate's degree |
| 8 | | at Danville Area Community College; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett began his career working for the |
| 10 | | fire department and later became an emergency medical |
| 11 | | technician (EMT); he dedicated more than three decades to law |
| 12 | | enforcement, serving as a police officer from 1984 until his |
| 13 | | retirement in 2017; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett remained active in his retirement, |
| 15 | | serving as a deputy coroner, a firearms instructor, and most |
| 16 | | recently, a semitruck driver for Ribbe Trucking; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting |
| 18 | | pool, and traveling; he loved gathering with family and |
| 19 | | friends to share jokes and stories, and he was always there to |
| 20 | | listen, help, or give advice; he cherished his family above |
| 21 | | all, and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his |

| 1 | | wife, children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett was a devoted husband, father, |
| 3 | | grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who |
| 4 | | will be remembered for his booming laugh, his gift for |
| 5 | | storytelling, and his generous heart; he lived a life marked |
| 6 | | by integrity, hard work, generosity, loyalty, and an |
| 7 | | unforgettable sense of humor; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett leaves behind a legacy measured not |
| 9 | | by accomplishments alone but also by the countless lives he |
| 10 | | touched, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created |
| 11 | | with those fortunate enough to know him; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett was preceded in death by his |
| 13 | | parents; his in-laws, Jerry and Joyce Elmore; his |
| 14 | | brother-in-law, Denny Elmore; his sister-in-law, Debbie |
| 15 | | Sheets; and his grandson, Wyatt Bailey; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Steve Cornett is survived by his wife of 38 |
| 17 | | years, Charlene; his children, Rick Wagner, Myretta |
| 18 | | Fitzsimmons, Amanda (Rory) Overmyer, Jodi (Lawrence) Davis, |
| 19 | | Stephanie (Brian) Bailey, and Tricia (Donnie) McKinney; 14 |
| 20 | | grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his siblings, Coy |
| 21 | | Cornett Jr., Dave (Debbie) Cornett, Sherry (Bob) Singleton, |
| 22 | | and Dave (Tammy) Elmore; and many nieces and nephews; |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 4 | | Steven Almon "Steve" Cornett and extend our sincere |
| 5 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 6 | | him; and be it further |
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Steve Cornett as an expression of |
| 9 | | our deepest sympathy. |
