SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of William R. "Bill" Groves of Peoria,
4who passed away on May 22, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Groves, the son of William A. and Elizabeth
6A. (Raistrick) Groves, was born in Peoria on March 2, 1955; he
7married Katherine Herschelman on March 3, 1990; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bill Groves served as a proud member of the
9International Union of Operating Engineers Local 649 for more
10than 50 years; he retired in 2015 with 40 years of active
11service, the last 15 of which were spent with him serving as
12apprenticeship coordinator; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bill Groves was an Eagle Scout who enjoyed
14spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating; he
15loved being with his family, including attending his
16granddaughters' sporting and music events, and he especially
17enjoyed having family time on his boat at Lake of the Ozarks
18and taking island vacations with his wife; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bill Groves will be remembered as a loving and
20devoted husband, father, and grandfather; and

1    WHEREAS, Bill Groves was preceded in death by his parents;
2his son, Nicholas Groves; and his father-in-law, Lyndal
3Herschelman; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bill Groves is survived by his wife, Katherine
5Groves; his children, Jennifer (Don) Allison and Austin
6(Lindsey Schafer) Groves; his grandchildren, McKinley and
7Daniella; his sister, Marilyn Magiera; and his mother-in-law,
8Mary Herschelman; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11William R. "Bill" Groves and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bill Groves as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
