| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Luke William Peterson of Chatham, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 25, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson was born to Emily (Reid) and Chad |
| 6 | | Peterson in Chicago on September 19, 2012; he and his family |
| 7 | | moved to Springfield in 2014, and he proceeded to attend |
| 8 | | Ball-Chatham Community Unit School District 5 to start |
| 9 | | kindergarten, where he was quickly labeled a quiet leader; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson, known by many as an exceptional |
| 11 | | baseball and basketball player in the Springfield and Chatham |
| 12 | | communities, took a deep interest in athletics from an early |
| 13 | | age and proved to be a natural at most sports he tried; he |
| 14 | | loved competing, especially against his brother, Reid, and |
| 15 | | their one-on-one competitions were heated but full of |
| 16 | | laughter; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson was a hard worker, spending |
| 18 | | countless hours shooting hoops, pitching, taking batting |
| 19 | | practice, and attending developmental camps; before long, he |
| 20 | | earned a spot on a series of highly-competitive traveling |
| 21 | | teams; as a gifted player, he often played up a level with |
| 22 | | teammates who were a year older; his ability, commitment, and |

| 1 | | kindness made him a beloved member on each team he joined, |
| 2 | | earning him countless friends along the way; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson was an intense competitor who wore |
| 4 | | #53, when possible, to honor his grandfather's race car |
| 5 | | number; a talented left-handed pitcher with a smooth, powerful |
| 6 | | swing, he also displayed a natural grace of movement and |
| 7 | | tremendous vision on the basketball court; he developed a |
| 8 | | reputation among his coaches and teammates for delivering |
| 9 | | intense, high-stakes moments, earning him the nickname "Cool |
| 10 | | Man Luke"; his poise under pressure translated into some |
| 11 | | triumphant plays and dramatic victories over the course of his |
| 12 | | career; in his typically understated manner, he would |
| 13 | | celebrate such moments with a quick fist pump, a headshake, |
| 14 | | and a satisfied smile; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson, though quiet, still possessed |
| 16 | | plenty of swagger and personality; he had confidence in his |
| 17 | | style from a young age, wearing flashy clothes, sporting lots |
| 18 | | of athletic gear to match his favorite players, and rocking a |
| 19 | | long-flowing mullet by age seven; in his early years, he loved |
| 20 | | dressing up, wearing a Paw Patrol or Ninja Turtles costume on a |
| 21 | | seemingly daily basis; and |
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Beyond his athletic pursuits, Luke Peterson loved |
| 23 | | spending time with his friends, especially his brothers in |

| 1 | | life, Levi Isringhausen and Jace Meier, and his cousin, Fiona |
| 2 | | Corley; though he was always popular among his peers, he |
| 3 | | remained inclusive and had an innate sweetness to him, always |
| 4 | | looking to connect with people and bring them into his circle; |
| 5 | | he also enjoyed spending time with his younger cousins, |
| 6 | | flashing his radiant, slow smile as they sang and danced |
| 7 | | around the room; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson was an exceptional son who adored |
| 9 | | his parents and looked up to his brother, Reid, and he will be |
| 10 | | remembered as a humble, compassionate, and charismatic young |
| 11 | | man who pursued excellence in everything he did; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Luke Peterson is survived by his mother; his |
| 13 | | father; his brother; his grandparents, Jerry and Lynn Peterson |
| 14 | | and Jack and Sue Reid; his great-grandmother, Kathryn "Kit" |
| 15 | | Refine; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, |
| 16 | | be it |
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 19 | | Luke William Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to |
| 20 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 21 | | further |
| 22 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
