Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that it is unlawful for a person to knowingly manufacture or produce a false academic degree or for a person to knowingly use a false academic degree for the purpose of obtaining employment or admission to an Illinois institution of higher learning or admission to an advanced degree program at an Illinois institution of higher learning or for the purpose of obtaining a promotion or higher compensation in employment. Effective immediately.

House Amendment No. 1
Deletes everything after the enacting clause. Reinserts the contents of the bill with the following changes. Limits the offense to the manufacture or production of a false academic degree for profit or for sale (unless the degree explicitly states "for novelty purposes only"). Provides that the definition of "institution of higher learning" includes a public or private college, university, or community college located anywhere in the United States that is or has been legally constituted to offer degrees and instruction in its state of origin or incorporation. Effective immediately.
