093_HB2369eng HB2369 Engrossed LRB093 07165 AMC 07320 b 1 AN ACT concerning professional regulation. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Professional Engineering Practice Act of 5 1989 is amended by adding Section 17.6 as follows: 6 (225 ILCS 325/17.6 new) 7 (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2010) 8 Sec. 17.6. Emeritus status requirements. 9 (a) An Illinois licensee who has been licensed for at 10 least 10 consecutive years, is 65 years of age or older, and 11 is retired from active practice may request emeritus status 12 by filing the request on forms prescribed by the Department 13 and paying a nonrefundable fee as established by rule. If 14 the requirements of this Section have been met, all fees for 15 the biennial license renewal shall be waived by the 16 Department during the period the professional engineer is in 17 emeritus status. An engineer with emeritus status may 18 maintain the title "professional engineer". 19 (b) An emeritus professional engineer may be readmitted 20 to active practice within 3 years of acquiring emeritus 21 status upon payment of the current renewal fee. 22 (c) An emeritus professional engineer who has held 23 emeritus status in excess of 3 consecutive years may be 24 readmitted to active practice only after filing an 25 application on forms supplied by the Department, payment of 26 the applicable fees, and completion of the current 27 examination in the principles and practice of engineering or 28 by appearing before the Board to satisfactorily demonstrate 29 his or her qualifications to resume active practice. 30 (d) An emeritus professional engineer seeking 31 readmission to active practice shall be required to meet HB2369 Engrossed -2- LRB093 07165 AMC 07320 b 1 continuing education requirements, as provided by Section 2 17.5 of this Act. 3 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 4 becoming law.
