| AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3977 on page 1, by |

| replacing line 1 with the following: |

| "AN ACT concerning criminal background checks."; and

| 5 |
| on page 1, by replacing lines 5 and 6 with the following: |

| "Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing |
| 7 |
| Sections 2605-325 and 2605-330 as follows:"; and

| on page 1, immediately below line 23, by inserting the |
| 9 |
| following:
|

| "(20 ILCS 2605/2605-330) (was 20 ILCS 2605/55a in part)
|

| Sec. 2605-330. Firefighter background investigations. Upon
|
| 12 |
| the request of the chief of a volunteer fire department or the |
| 13 |
| board of trustees of a fire protection district, the Department |
| 14 |
| shall
conduct criminal background investigations of |
| 15 |
| prospective firefighters and
report to the requesting chief any |
| 16 |
| record of convictions maintained in the
Department's files |
| 17 |
| about those persons. The Department may charge a fee, based
on |
| 18 |
| actual costs, for the dissemination of conviction information |
| 19 |
| under this
Section. The Department may prescribe the form and |
| 20 |
| manner
for requesting and furnishing conviction information |
| 21 |
| under this Section.
