Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that, in addition to any other method authorized by law, if (i) a property owner is cited for an ordinance violation, (ii) non-compliance is found upon reinspection of the property after the due date for compliance with an order to correct the ordinance violation, and (iii) fines and costs for the non-compliance and reinspection remain unpaid, then those fines and costs may be collected as a special assessment on the property.

| AN ACT concerning special assessments.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 9-2-4.5 as follows: |

| (65 ILCS 5/9-2-4.5 new) |

| Sec. 9-2-4.5. Special assessment for payment of unpaid |
8 |
| fines and costs. In addition to any other method authorized by |
9 |
| law, if (i) a property owner is cited with an ordinance |
10 |
| violation, (ii) non-compliance is found upon reinspection of |
11 |
| the property after the due date for compliance with an order to |
12 |
| correct the ordinance violation, and (iii) fines and costs for |
13 |
| the non-compliance and reinspection remain unpaid, then those |
14 |
| fines and costs may be collected as a special assessment on the |
15 |
| property under this Division.
