    Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Requires insurers issuing policies of uninsured and underinsured motor vehicle coverage to treat underinsured motor vehicle coverage as part of uninsured motor vehicle coverage.

    AN ACT concerning insurance.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended  by adding 
5
Section 143a-3 as follows:

    (215 ILCS 5/143a-3  new)

    Sec. 143a-3. Severability of underinsured motor vehicle 
8
coverage from uninsured motor vehicle coverage. A policy that 
9
provides for uninsured motor vehicle coverage and underinsured 
10
motor vehicle coverage must treat underinsured motor vehicle 
11
coverage as part of uninsured motor vehicle coverage. The 
12
rights, obligations, and protections set forth apply to 
13
underinsured motor vehicle coverage unless otherwise specified 
14
by statute or policy language.
