| AN ACT in relation to transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 |
| Section 18c-7401.1 as follows:
|

| Sec. 18c-7401.1. Rules for safe railroad worker walkways. |
| 8 |
| Within 90 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act |
| 9 |
| of the 93rd General Assembly, the Commission shall adopt rules |
| 10 |
| regarding safe walkways for railroad workers in areas where |
| 11 |
| work is regularly performed on the ground. The rules must |
| 12 |
| include, at a minimum, a requirement that any walkway (i) have |
| 13 |
| a reasonably uniform surface, (ii) be maintained in a safe |
| 14 |
| condition, and (iii) be reasonably free of obstacles, debris, |
| 15 |
| and other hazards.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 17 |
| becoming law. |
