Amends the Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act. Requires each
food
service establishment to maintain and make available upon a customer's request
a notice
of food ingredients to alert a food allergy sufferer to any potential
reaction from
consuming a particular menu item. Requires each food service establishment to
post a
sign informing the customers of their right to obtain that list upon request.
Effective immediately. |

| AN ACT concerning food service.
|
| 2 |
| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 |
| Section 5. The Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act is |
| 5 |
| amended by adding
Section 3.1 as follows:
|
| 6 |
| (410 ILCS 625/3.1 new)
|
| 7 |
| Sec. 3.1. Mandatory notice of food ingredients.
Each food |
| 8 |
| service establishment in this State shall:
|
| 9 |
| (1) Provide either written or verbal information, at |
| 10 |
| the request of a customer, indicating whether a specific |
| 11 |
| food or drink item sold by the establishment contains |
| 12 |
| specified allergenic ingredients.
|
| 13 |
| (2) Post a food allergy alert poster in a conspicuous |
| 14 |
| place accessible to all employees.
|
| 15 |
| The Department of Public Health shall develop guidelines |
| 16 |
| for the implementation of this Section.
|
| 17 |
| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 18 |
| becoming law. |
