| WHEREAS, Springfield is the home of many Abraham Lincoln |
| 3 |
| historic sites, such as the Lincoln Home, the Lincoln-Herndon |
| 4 |
| Law Offices, the Old State Capitol, Lincoln's Tomb, and the |
| 5 |
| soon to be completed Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Many people visiting Abraham Lincoln historic |
| 7 |
| sites travel by car; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, A majority of Business Route 55 extending from |
| 9 |
| Sherman through Springfield affords easy access to many of the |
| 10 |
| important Abraham Lincoln historic sites in Springfield; |
| 11 |
| therefore, be it
|
| 12 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 13 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
| 14 |
| SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of Business Route 55 |
| 15 |
| extending from Sherman to Jefferson Street and Madison Street |
| 16 |
| in Springfield, the portions of Jefferson Street and Madison |
| 17 |
| Street extending from 9th Street to 5th Street and 6th Street, |
| 18 |
| and the portions of 5th Street and 6th Street extending from |
| 19 |
| Jefferson Street and Madison Street southward through |
| 20 |
| Springfield to Interstate 55 be collectively designated the |
| 21 |
| Abraham Lincoln Parkway; and be it further
|
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, That the Department of Transportation is |
| 23 |
| requested to erect appropriate plaques or signs giving notice |
| 24 |
| of the Abraham Lincoln Parkway; and be it further.

| RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to |
| 26 |
| the Secretary of Transportation and to the communities of |
| 27 |
| Sherman, Springfield, and Southern View.
